Unlocking Opportunities: Local Free Adult Education Program Empowers Community

In the heart of our community, an invaluable resource is quietly making a profound impact on the lives of adults seeking to enhance their skills and prospects. The local Adult Education program, housed in the Tygarts Valley Conservation District Building on Rt 250, offers a wide array of free courses catering to diverse needs. The program is operated by Mountain State Educational Services Cooperative, which is run through the state.

The program caters to diverse range of learners, with 60 percent pursuing GED certification, marking a critical step towards career advancement. Microsoft Office training, the program's second most popular offering, and QuickBooks training reflect the growing demand for digital literacy and specialized skills in the workforce.

Aspiring nurses find a stepping stone in the program, with prep course designed to help them with the testing necessary for their advancement in the field. The curriculum also places a strong emphasis on basic computer training, ensuring that learners are equipped with essential skills for today's technology-driven job market.

Certificates earned through the program are more than mere pieces of paper; they symbolize dedication and a commitment to self-improvement. These credentials not only enhance resumes but also signal to employers the possession of soft skills crucial for effective job performance.

The program also offers training in customer service and hospitality, recognizing the importance of interpersonal skills in a service-oriented economy. By nurturing these qualities, learners are better prepared to navigate the challenges of the professional world.

The program operates year-round, providing a continuous learning opportunity for community members. Classes run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon, with the exception of federal holidays. The self-paced nature of the courses allows individuals to start at any time, providing a flexible and accessible learning environment.

While all classes are free of charge, the option to work from home is available. For those who benefit from in-person guidance, the classroom welcomes students seeking additional support. This flexibility ensures that education remains within reach for everyone, regardless of their circumstances.

An additional highlight of the program is the CSM math program. Recognized by community colleges as credit for introductory math courses, this initiative opens doors to higher education for program graduates.

For those curious to explore these opportunities, further information can be obtained by calling 304-457-3007. Kelly Benner, the program's dedicated instructor, stands ready to guide prospective learners towards a brighter future.

This local Adult Education program is not just a classroom; it's a gateway to a world of opportunities. By investing in the skills and education of our community members, we collectively contribute to a more empowered and prosperous future for all.
