Turkey Trot 5K Aims To Feed Hundreds This Holiday Season

Barbour Community Health Association (BCHA) is excited to announce the 13th Annual Turkey Trot 5K Walk/Run, taking place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Belington Wellness Center. This much-anticipated community event will bring together participants of all ages for a day of fitness, fun, and giving back to those in need.

The event will be held at the Belington Wellness Center, located at 70 N. Sturmer Street. Race day registration will begin at 7:45 a.m., and the 5K Walk/Run will start promptly at 9 a.m., followed by the 1 Mile Fun Trot beginning right after. Participants can choose to join either the 5K race or the 1 Mile Fun Trot. ll participants who register by October 16, 2024 will receive a commemorative T-shirt. In addition, participants are asked to bring a canned food item to support local food drives.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Heart and Hand House Food Pantry and the Belington Presbyterian Church’s Thanksgiving Day Meal Program. Both organizations provide vital support to the local Barbour County community, offering meals and food assistance to families in need. BCHA plans to match all funds raised from the event dollar for dollar, doubling the impact of the community’s contributions.

Eric Ruf, CEO of Barbour Community Health Association, expressed his excitement about the event, “The Turkey Trot is a great way for individuals and families to come together for a fun, healthy activity while making a significant impact on the lives of others. The funds raised this year will go directly to the Heart and Hand House Food Pantry and help feed more than 400 people during the Belington Presbyterian Church’s annual Thanksgiving Day meal. We are honored to continue this tradition and to support our community in such a meaningful way.”

Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each age category, with the overall male and female winners receiving a turkey. Participants are also encouraged to embrace the fall season by wearing festive costumes, and awards will be given to the top three participants with the best fall-themed outfits.

BCHA is also encouraging local businesses and community members to make donations to support the event. Contributions of $100 or more are welcomed, and businesses that donate $500 or more will have their logos featured on the back of the official Turkey Trot T-shirts. Non-perishable food donations can be delivered to any Barbour Community Health Association location now through Saturday, November 2, 2024.
