Philippi, WV – October 22, 2024 – Wrestling fans in Barbour County are gearing up for a major event this Saturday as the Tygart Valley Wrestling Federation (TVWF) returns to the Rex Pyles Arena. With a lineup featuring some of the biggest stars in regional wrestling—and a special appearance by WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long—the night promises to be a memorable experience for the community.
TVWF’s arrival marks the latest chapter in the federation’s effort to bring professional wrestling to small-town audiences in West Virginia. Wrestling fans young and old will witness a mix of championship matches, debut performances, and dramatic tag team showdowns—many of which have been months in the making.
“Wrestling brings people together in a way that few other forms of entertainment can,” said event organizer Ben Simmons. “We’re excited to give fans a great night of action, right here in Philippi.”
Heavyweight Title Defense and TVWF Debuts on the Card
The main event will see TVWF Heavyweight Champion Timmy Danger defend his title against Damien Wayne—a bout expected to be as hard-hitting as it is unpredictable. Meanwhile, Dontay Bishop will put his Next Up Championship on the line against “Big Boi” Aaron Cross, bringing two dynamic athletes to the ring in a match that could steal the show.
Local fans will also be treated to a TVWF debut, as “Gym Class Hero” Paul Bryant faces off against Papa Razzi, adding a fresh layer of excitement to the night’s action.
In another eagerly anticipated match, Marshall Law will take on Jeff Paul, reigniting a rivalry that has captivated fans in recent months.
Teddy Long's Presence Means Tag Team Action
Longtime wrestling fans know that whenever Teddy Long makes an appearance, tag team matches are never far behind. This Saturday will feature two action-packed tag team contests:
The Divine Embrace—Kari Kobain and The Prophet Daniel Reed, led by their manager Curtis T Love—will clash with the fan-favorite Golden Pinky Society in what promises to be a high-energy encounter.
In another exciting showdown, International Affairs—featuring Shiek Shorty and Asaafi—will go head-to-head with Killer Kylo and a mystery partner handpicked by Teddy Long himself.
And, with referee Telise Starseeker officiating, fans can expect fair and fast-paced action throughout the night, ensuring every match delivers its share of thrills.
Community Excitement Builds for Saturday’s Show
The arrival of TVWF is more than just a night of entertainment—it’s part of a growing effort to bring large-scale events to Philippi. With the recent closure of Alderson Broaddus University, many residents and alumni have been anxious about the impact on the local economy.
However, events like this wrestling showcase—plus other events organized by new campus owner Cherri Sturm—are beginning to shift the narrative.“People were really worried when the school shut down. It felt like the heart of the town had been pulled out,” shared one local resident. “But seeing events like this come to Battlers Knob, and knowing more are planned, gives us hope that something new is growing here.” The Rex Pyles Arena, now part of the newly re-christened "Battlers Knob," is quickly becoming a hub for both public and private events, signaling a brighter future for the community. As the venue fills its calendar with exciting activities over the coming months, residents are optimistic that Philippi’s charm and resilience will draw even more events to the area.
“This is exactly the kind of event we love to host,” said Simmons, who was an AB alumni. “It’s family-friendly, exciting, and brings the community together for a fun night out.”
