Philip Barbour and Grafton boys' basketball teams participated in special event on Saturday night, when the court at Rex Pyles Arena at Battlers Knob was officially named Greg Zimmerman Court. Grafton players donned Flemington High School jerseys, as that was the first coaching job Coach Zimmerman had following his graduation from Alderson-Broaddus College.
More than 600 people attended dedication ceremony, and more than 1000 people came throughout the day as three different games were played. Freshmen boys lost the first game, and JV brought in the excitement with an overtime game that PB unfortunately lost. Varsity team came fired up, and ended the night with Philip Barbour victory.
The same night, PB girls' basketball team played against Logan HS in Fairmont and came out with a loss after two straight wins earlier in the week.
The weather certainly created a mess in traffic throughout the county. Route 57 was closed for almost two hours while emergency crews tended to 11 car pile up. In a meantime, two trucks were in the separate one vehicle accident on Route 92, causing the closure of that road for about two hours as well. Several minor accidents were also reported across the county, as rain, mixed with cold temperatures created solid ice on the roads.
As for the rest of the weeks, below zero temperatures are predicted, as well as more snow on a Sunday, making it hard to predict any event cancellation next week. We will keep you inform in our daily headlines.
Olive Hill Church and Southern Baptist Church in Philippi already called off their services for today, and it is expected that more churches may follow suit.
