Run For It Team Registration Ends August 31

The deadline to register a team for the 17th annual Run For It race is August 31st. Run For It is a 2k walk and 5k race hosted by the Tucker Community Foundation. The race is open to organizations and non-profits in the Foundation’s eight-county service area to participate for cash with no strings attached. Currently, 46 teams are registered.

The race will start at 11 a.m. on September 28, 2024, in Davis, WV, in conjunction with the annual Leaf Peepers Festival. The 2k course is a 1.2-mile untimed walk around town, and the 5k is a 3.1-mile timed walk/run that winds through the town. The 5k is a USATFsanctioned race open to walkers and competitive runners.

The registration cost is $12, with half of the entry fee supporting a charity of the participant’s choice. To register, individuals and teams can sign up online by visiting runsignup.com/Race/WV/Davis/RunForIt, or by completing the registration forms on the Foundation’s website at tuckerfoundation.net/run. Team registration for in-person and virtual races ends on August 31, 2024, and individual registration for in-person and virtual races ends on September 21, 2024. In-person registration will be available at the Davis Fire Hall on Friday, September 27, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. and on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 8-9:30 AM.

“Run For It promotes healthy activity and encourages local philanthropy. Throughout the years, it has evolved into a solid challenge-grant program thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Foundation’s staff, board of directors, and numerous volunteers,” said Angie Pase, Development Director for the Tucker Community Foundation. “The program aims to raise awareness and support for non-profits, civic organizations, and other charities throughout the Tucker Community Foundation’s eight-county service area in West Virginia and Maryland.”

The program supports non-profit and charitable organizations in raising funds through entry fees, team sponsorship, and race-day awards. 100% of team sponsor donations and race-day awards go towards the team’s chosen cause, while half of the entry fees are donated. The program supports causes, including the arts, animal welfare, challenged athletes, charities, community improvement projects, and more.

“More than 100 cash awards are given to team charities that raise the most awareness and support, along with demonstrating the best effort,” Pase said. “We encourage non-profit organizations to form teams and enlist sponsors for their team’s cause. If a group needs help setting up a team or has questions about how to register or how to leverage funds, please get in touch with us. We’re happy to help.”

Over the past 16 years, Run For It has positively impacted the local economy by attracting serious racers and families to the area and supporting local businesses. In 2023, the event attracted 1,389 walkers and runners and raised approximately $287,595. These funds helped 79 non-profit organizations and groups in the Potomac Highlands and beyond!
