Happy Birthday, America! Independence Day, otherwise known as the 4th of July, is the anniversary of the day in which the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. We acknowledge the importance of this celebration in which we declared our independence from Britain and the United States was born! Whether it’s history, romance, horror, or another genre, the library is here to meet your reading and viewing needs.
Most of this month’s column will be devoted to comments about the exciting upcoming programs at the Philippi Public Library.
Run For It: The library will once again take their “Bookworms” team to the Tucker Community Foundation’s Run For It. We always makes a great showing and generate funds for the library. This year’s event is on Saturday, September 28, 2021, in Davis during the Leap Peeper’s Festival. Registration and donor forms are available at the library or online at https://runsignup.com/Race/Donate/WV/Davis/RunForIt.
Closings: The library is closed on Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. On Friday, the library will be closed to the public for our Staff Development Day. We will be here working, training, meeting, cleaning, and gardening. We would gladly take volunteers to help us.
Library Meeting: The Philippi Public Library Board of Trustees will hold the next monthly meeting on Monday, July 8, at 9 a.m. at the library. The meeting is open to the public and an agenda is posted in advance at the library.
Book Sale: The library has ongoing book sales inside the library daily when open. On Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., we open the book shed for additional offerings. We just got in new donations. All proceeds go toward the library’s Bookworms team in the Run For It.
Family Summer Movies: We will show “Ruby Gilman Teenage Kraken (PG) on Friday July 19, starting at approximately 9 p.m. outside on the library’s lawn. With the City Police’s permission, we will close down Mason Street and people can bring their own chairs and blankets and set up in the grass or on the street. For those who cannot make the outside movie, we will show it again on Saturday morning inside the library starting at 10:30 a.m.
