As a Christmas gift to the community, the Barbour County Historical Museum will open for a limited time over the Christmas holidays. The Museum will open December 15, 16, 17 and December 21, 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Visitors are invited to walk through the history displayed in the Museum including Civil War era artifacts, artifacts of the medical family Myers, other artifacts tracing farming and mining in the area, and a recently acquired collection of Alderson Broaddus University memorabilia. Visitors may also walk into the back room to view the now-famous Philippi mummies.
In addition to the numerous historical artifacts to enjoy, Museum visitors will also find a selection of small Christmas gifts for sale. Among the items available for purchase at the Museum are a new Museum hanging ornament; a hanging Covered Bridge ornament; red, blue, and green mugs emblazed with an image of the Covered Bridge; Covered Bridge notecards; key chains; t-shirts, and shot glasses. According to a Museum spokesperson, "All these items make great small gifts and souvenirs of our community." The spokesperson added, "We are happy to open our doors for this limited holiday time. We hope to see many visitors!"
