Pictured are some of the items available at the Barbour County Historical Museum for purchase. A spokesperson says, “All these items will make great Christmas gifts or souvenirs.” The Museum will be open during Thanksgiving week except for Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday. Check the Museum’s website at www.barbourcountyhistoricalmuseum.org and its Facebook page for more information.

The Barbour County Historical Museum extends a special invitation to area residents and visitors to stop by Philippi’s primary proprietor of historical artifacts during the upcoming Thanksgiving week. The Museum will be open November 25, 26, 27, and 30, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition to the numerous historical artifacts to enjoy, Museum visitors will also find a wide selection of Christmas gifts for sale. Among the items available for purchase at the Museum are Lurch bobble heads; several hanging Christmas ornaments; red, blue, and green ceramic mugs emblazed with an image of the Covered Bridge; Covered Bridge notecards; key chains; t-shirts; numerous books about Barbour County and the Civil War; magnets and stickers; Civil War souvenirs, and shot glasses. According to a Museum spokesperson, “All these items make great small gifts and souvenirs of our community.” The spokesperson added, “We are happy to open our doors for this limited holiday time. We hope to see many visitors!”

While in the Museum, visitors are invited to walk through the history on display in the Museum including Civil War era artifacts, artifacts of the medical Myers family, other artifacts tracing farming and mining in the area, and a recently acquired collection of Alderson Broaddus University memorabilia. Visitors may also walk into the back room to view the now-famous Philippi mummies.
