*Children are finally back in school... so to speak. On Friday, students will stay at home and use their snow packets for a non-traditional instructional school day, while the teachers will have to report to their schools to be on site if students need to call for help with their schoolwork. Seeing how another snowfall is coming our way over the weekend, it is to be seen whether the students will actually make it inside the school building next week.
*Most of the snow has been removed from the roads within City of Philippi and City of Belington limits, and street crews from both cities as well as DOH are continuing the work around the clock to reach side streets and secondary roads.
*Majority of businesses are also back being open, although several of them might still have different hours or modified ways of operation (for hours and delivery services, it is best to call businesses directly).
*Events scheduled for the weekend may be rescheduled, and we will update on those on Saturday morning. These include cheerleading showcase at Battlers Knob, Belington Bakery one year anniversary party, baseball clinic at Battlers Knob, and karaoke night at E3 Music & Art in Belington.
*Case of bird flu was found among chickens in Pocahontas County, and Barbour County WVU Extension Service is urging chicken owners to be vigilant and on the lookout for any symptoms.
*Barbour County 4-H program will be hosting a Bingo on February 8 at 2pm at PBHS commons, so make sure to mark your calendars!
*Philippi City Library will celebrate National Pizza Week on Tuesday, January 14 with some unique crafts, including pizza jewelry, and knitting or crocheting pizza slice, and attendees will also be able to rate local pizzas. The event will take place from 4:30-6 p.m.
