Free Thanksgiving Dinner

The Barbour County Ministerial Association, along with other local churches and businesses will host a free Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner will be on November 23, the Thanksgiving Day. This project has become a tradition in the Philippi Area, and there is also a free dinner in the Belington area. The free dinner in Philippi started out as a Boy Scout Project and has turned into a community ministry. Every year on Thanksgiving Day, there are around 200 to 225 meals shared with folks, where they are in physical need, or just in need of some companionship on Thanksgiving Day, and it is a great blessing.

For many folks this has become an opportunity to give to the community and share the love of God with others. There are folks who have worked in this ministry for several years. This dinner would not be possible without the volunteers, who give up part of their day to fulfill the call that God places upon his church, to feed the needy and love thy neighbor. If you would like to volunteer just show up, there are lots of tasks that need to be fulfilled on this day. Also needed are folks to deliver meals as limited delivery is available. Ministerial Association is looking for willing workers to accomplish this ministry.

The organization relies heavily on donations to make this ministry event happen. It takes around 15 turkeys, ten #10 cans of green beans, cartons of mashed potatoes, 42 boxes of stuffing mix, 25 pumpkin pies, and gravy mix. As you can see, this is no easy effort. If you would like to donate an item or items, you can Call Crim Memorial Church at 304-457-1123 or 304- 614-1819. If you would like to make a monetary donation, you can mail it to BCMA, c/o Crim Memorial UMC, 78 Pike Street, Philippi, WV 26416.

Meals will be ready for delivery around 11:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, and they are available for dine in or take out. If you like to place an order for your meal, you can call 304- 457- 2676, or 304- 614- 1819. Ministerial Association appreciates the support from the community, as they are working to bring joy, feed hungry folks, and fulfill the mission they are called to.
