The American Legion Post 96 will hold a Flag Retirement Ceremony, on Friday, June 14, 2024, Flag Day. The Ceremony will take place at 8 p.m., on the vacant lot in Belington, adjacent to the Belington Post Office, and across the street from the Belington Shop N Save.
Flag owners have been placing used, soiled, damaged and otherwise non serviceable US Flags, as well as other WV and miscellaneous flags in a collection box in front of the Belington Senior Center since Flag Day of 2023. The Post regularly collects the flags from the box and stores them for this annual event.
This year, there will be several hundred flags that will be retired and destroyed in a proper and respectful manner. The public is invited to attend. As there is no seating, you are encouraged, for your comfort, to bring your lawn chairs. The service lasts less than one hour. Post 96 appreciates all the folks who respect our National Flag of the United States of American and who have chosen to contribute to this moving ceremony year after year.
