Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 9, 2024, and bring your family to gather as a community to honor our heroes. Battlers Knob invites you to be part of a special day as they pay tribute to the courageous veterans of Barbour County. On Saturday, November 9, the public in invited to Battlers Knob as various activities will be hosted during “Veterans Day Salute Honoring All Who Served” for the veterans of Barbour County.
That morning, a 5K Race will be held with the race site opening at 8 a.m. and the race to begin at 10 a.m. After the 5K Race, starting at 11 a.m., there will be a Post Race Community Celebration including games, vendors, informational tents, food, and drinks. An air soft shooting competition will be held at this time, too. The public is invited to join all the 5K Race participants in this fun event!
At 2 p.m., Battlers Knob will hold a Field of Flags Ceremony where 1,011 American Flags will be placed in the green space on campus, in honor of the 1,011 veterans who call Barbour County home. This heartfelt ceremony is a celebration of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to our freedom. Each flag will stand as a symbol of gratitude and respect for the men and women who have served selflessly in defense of our nation. Appreciation is extended to Delegate Chris Phillips, who has donated over 1,000 American Flags for this distinctive Ceremony. West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner, who is also a veteran and Barbour County native, will be the featured speaker. The public is encouraged to attend this Ceremony in honor of all Barbour County veterans.
At 3 p.m. in Burbick Hall, tribute will be paid to 25 area combat veterans through a special Quilts of Valor Presentation. During this touching presentation, each combat veteran will receive heartfelt recognition for their service, along with a unique patriotic quilt crafted just for them. This meaningful event is made possible in partnership with the WV Quilts of Valor organization.
Battlers Knob is proud to honor the veterans of Barbour County and the public is invited to attend all of these activities throughout the day at Battlers Knob.
