Barbour County Health Department is gearing up to host a comprehensive Health Fair on February 22, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. The event promises a diverse range of activities and informational sessions designed to promote overall health and well-being within the community.
One of the highlights of the Health Fair is the opportunity to meet and greet the dedicated healthcare professionals who serve the community. Providers Cheryl Bowers, PA-C, and Jordan Bowers, PA-C, along with the nursing staff, administrators, threat preparedness staff, environmental health staff, and therapists will be available to engage with attendees.
The event will not only be informative but also enjoyable, featuring snacks, games, and exciting prizes for attendees. The health fair will also have various informational tables covering a wide array of topics, including cancer prevention and screening, threat preparedness, harm reduction, and substance use response.
Immunizations, an essential component of preventive healthcare, will be addressed at the fair, ensuring residents have access to the latest information and resources. General health and dental education, mental health awareness, and education on problem gambling will also be available.
Sara Coberly, RN, a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist, will be on-site to provide valuable information on smoking cessation. For those interested in sports or work-related physicals, the Health Fair offers convenient options, including blood pressure checks, fingerstick glucose readings, and pulse oximetry readings.
Notably, the event aims to address public health concerns, offering Naloxone distribution and training for individuals seeking to be prepared in case of opioid overdoses. Attendees can also obtain COVID-19 test kits while supplies last, contributing to ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.
To further enhance accessibility, the Health Fair will provide lab services at affordable prices, with no insurance billing required. Services include CBC, CMP, Lipid (Cholesterol Panel), TSH (Thyroid Hormone), PSA (Prostate), and HgA1c. Additionally, wellness panels tailored to gender-specific needs are available for both men and women. A diabetes panel, including CMP, HgA1c, and Lipid, will also be offered.
