12th Annual 5K Turkey Trot Held At Belington Wellness Center

Community sponsors and volunteers came together on Saturday, November 4 to support the Barbour Community Health Association's twelfth annual Turkey Trot. This event is held each year to raise funds for the Heart and Hand House and the Belington Presbyterian Church.

The two local organizations come together each year to feed roughly 400 families every Thanksgiving Day. The Belington Presbyterian Church has been hosting Thanksgiving Day dinners since 1995, with the help of 20-25 volunteers who deliver and give out the food to locals.

Kim Bolton, Barbour Community Health Association's Wellness Center Director said, "I'm so happy to see such a great turnout and folks coming together and having a great time while supporting a good cause. We want to thank all our sponsors and caring community members for stepping up and making our event successful for the 12th year."

More than 70 runners and walkers participated in this year's event, with the oldest participant being 89 years old and the youngest participant being four months old.

The top male runner went to Trevor George with a time of 17 minutes and 46 seconds and the top female runner was Emilia Tenney with a time of 23 minutes and 30 seconds.

Sponsors of the Turkey Trot included Barbour Community Health Association, Mullens & Mullens, PLLC, Citizens Bank, Radon Medical Imaging, LabCorp, Shop N' Save Express, Delta Cooling Towers, Mills Group, LLC, Mark Joseph, CPA, Blue Ridge Risk Partners, Cintas, Skateland, LLC, Edward Jones: Gene Cowgill, Financial Advisor, Freedom Bank, Cvechko Insurance, Mace's Pharmacy, Hometown Care, Mountain Hospice, Hometown Pizzeria, Ryan's Repair, Lake's Bookkeeping, and Agency LMC.

"The event couldn't have been possible without the help of all our wonderful volunteers. We're always very impressed with our sponsors that really step up and financially help those in need. We're also very proud of our organization and our community for backing this event," says Barbour Community Health Association CEO, Eric Ruf.

Next year's Turkey Trot is scheduled for November 2, 2024.
